Our recommendation

Buy the Elite for the biggest fan Assault makes, a connected console with a competition mode, and a ten year frame warranty. Buy the Classic if you program competitive conditioning, prefer its smaller footprint, and do not need your data off the bike. The workout ceiling is unlimited on both; the fan size and the console are the difference.

Same chain, different spend

Both bikes are chain driven, so the upkeep story is shared: lubrication, tension checks, and simple, standard parts backed by the biggest knowledge base in the category. The Elite spends its premium on the fan, the frame, and the console rather than on deleting the chain; riders who want a belt should look at the Schwinn Airdyne line instead.

Size and stability

The Elite is the larger, heavier machine, rated to 350 lb and planted under any rider in that range. The Classic is the compact one, rated to 300 lb, and strong riders sprinting at the top of that range will feel more movement.

Fan feel

Both fans are unlimited, but the Elite's 27 inch fan carries more authority at the top end, while the Classic's smaller fan spins up faster at the start of a piece. For timed calorie work either delivers; strong riders feel the difference in the final seconds of a sprint.

Choose Assault Fitness AssaultBike Elite if…

  • You want the largest fan and the highest capacity in the line
  • You sprint standing at full power and want zero movement
  • Your gym has room for the bigger footprint

Choose Assault Fitness AssaultBike Classic if…

  • You follow gym programming written around Assault bikes
  • Garage space is tight
  • You want the lower price and do not mind a chain

FAQ

Air Bikes (Fan Bikes) questions, answered straight

Which is louder?

At equal effort they are close: both are chain driven fan bikes and both are loud at a sprint. The Elite's bigger fan moves more air at the top end, so in a house neither is the mannered option; that is the Schwinn pitch, not this one's.
